08/28/2017, at 10:08 AM, Augusta University Police observed a green Ford Explorer with the driver’s side window down in the parking lot of the University Village Apartment Complex.  Officer conducted a check of the vehicle and detected the odor of marijuana emitting from the vehicle.  Further investigation discovered in plain view inside the vehicle a grinder and various other drug paraphernalia.  A short time later a male subject wearing a backpack approach the vehicle and open the driver’s door.  Officers approached, identified and questioned the subject who stated he was a Augusta University Student visiting his girlfriend in apartment 1208, and that the vehicle and the items inside the vehicle were his.  The subject was informed of the reason for the contact and the subject admitted that there was a marijuana cigarette in the center console.  The subject was placed under arrest and the vehicle searched.  The following items were found inside the vehicle:  three practically smoked marijuana cigarettes, a grinder, and four canisters containing a green leafy substance, 231 plastic bags, a scale, and a 100 gram weight.  $505 in cash was found on the subject.  The green leafy substance tested positive for marijuana.  All items were taken as evidence.  The subject was process and booked into the Richmond County Jail for Felony Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Distribute.  The subject was also issued a Criminal Trespass Warning.  Anyone with additional information about this incident may contact the AU Police Department at 706-721-2911.
